Doctor of Nursing Practice in Nurse Anesthesiology Admission

Admission Requirements

For consideration and admission to the Doctor of Nursing Practice in Anesthesiology program, applicants must submit the following:

  1. A completed Doctoral Application.
    • A $35 non-refundable application fee is required.
  2. Official Transcripts of all previous college work, reflecting the following:
    • A baccalaureate or graduate degree in nursing or an appropriate major from an accredited program.
    • Minimum nursing GPA 3.2
    • Minimum science GPA 3.0
    • Earned grade of B in undergraduate Statistics, Pharmacology, Anatomy & Physiology, and Pathophysiology preferred.
    • Official Transcripts may be sent electronically or by mail, directly from the school of attendance, in a sealed envelope to:

    • Any transcripts from institutions outside of the United States require an official course-by-course evaluation by a NACES.org approved agency.
  3. Active, unencumbered license as a registered professional nurse in the United States or its territories or protectorates.
    • Please upload your U.S. RN/APRN license as a PDF in your Admissions Portal.
  4. At the time of application submission, the applicant must have a minimum of one year (two years preferred) of current, continuous full-time acute care experience as a registered nurse in a critical care setting, which offers the applicant an opportunity to develop as an independent decision-maker capable of using and interpreting advanced monitoring techniques based on their knowledge of physiological and pharmacological principles. This experience must have been in the United States or its territories or protectorates.
  5. Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ACLS or PALS depending on the applicant’s background), and Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification.
    • Certificates must be uploaded in your admissions portal after submission of your completed application. CCRN test scores will be requested of candidates invited to interview. PALS is not a requirement of admission, but certification must be provided prior to the fourth semester of the anesthesiology program.
  6. Personal Statement/Writing Sample
    • Please submit your writing sample in either a word document or PDF in your Admissions Portal.
    • Your answers must be typed and double-spaced. Both the content of your answers and your ability to write are being evaluated, so proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling are important.
  7. A current Resume/Curriculum Vitae
    • Please upload in either a word document or PDF in your Admissions Portal.
  8. Letters of Recommendation
    • At least two recommendations are required from professional colleagues in a leadership role from the critical care setting, addressing the applicant’s critical thinking skills, experience and potential success in the nurse anesthesiology program.
    • Recommendations are to be requested through your Admissions Portal.
  9. Faculty Interview
    • Selected applicants will be invited to participate in on-campus interviews.
    • Personal interviews (by invitation) with members of the Nurse Anesthesiology Admission Committee may be offered to selected, qualified applicants.
